The United Nations has raised serious concerns over the malnutrition crisis in Gaza, warning that it could have long-term effects on newborns and children. Health officials report that limited access to nutritious food, clean water, and medical care is placing an entire generation at risk.

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), seventy percent of newborns are premature or underweight, compared with 20 percent before October 2023. Experts have observed children appearing significantly younger than their actual age due to severe undernutrition.

The long-term consequences include stunted growth, impaired cognitive development, and weakened immune systems, which can persist into adulthood and even affect future generations. Only a fraction of those in urgent need are currently able to receive treatment.

The UN emphasizes that immediate, large-scale intervention is essential to prevent lasting harm to the population, particularly the youngest and most vulnerable.
